How to link PAN with Aadhaar?

It has become mandatory to link your PAN card with the Aadhaar card. This is an important process and failing to do so before 30th September 2021 may lead to a penalty of rupees 1000, according to new section 234H of the IT act.

The process to link your PAN with Aadhaar is very simple. We shall be discussing some of the steps you can follow to link your PAN card with the Aadhaar card.

Important Things to keep in mind before Linking PAN and Aadhaar :

  1. Make sure your name is same on both PAN and Aadhaar (no spelling mistakes).
  2. Make sure your DOB or YOB is same on both PAN and Aadhaar.
  3. Your Gender is same on both PAN and Aadhaar
  4. Your registered phone no. with Aadhaar should be working for OTP and sending SMS.

How can I link PAN with Aadhaar?

  1. Through Income Tax e-filing portal.(online)
  2. By sending a SMS to 567678 or 56161.(offline)

Penalty needed to pay if not linked within due date

As per Section 234H of the Income Tax Act, a penalty of Rs.1000 will be charged if you do not ink your PAN number with your Aadhaar number within the due date.

Section 234H: Without prejudice to the provisions of this Act, where a person is required to intimate his Aadhaar number under sub-section (2) of section 139AA and such person fails to do so on or before such date, as may be prescribed, he shall be liable to pay such fee, as may be prescribed, not exceeding one thousand rupees, at the time of making intimation under sub-section (2) of section 139AA after the said date.”

Sub-section (2) of section 139AA: Every person who has been allotted PAN as on the 1st day of July 2017, and who is eligible to obtain Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number to such authority in such form and manner as may be prescribed, on or before a date to be notified by the Central Government in the Official Gazette.
